Textile artwork

This textile artwork was created by Salford Slow Fashion.

It is a fusion of dress inspired by clothing traditionally worn by communities who worked in the Lancashire Mills. It aims to speak for the people that would not have always been represented in The Town Hall.

The fabric is constructed out of many individual elements, created with local groups reflecting the rich history of Rochdale.

Making of the artwork

The designs within the fabric symbolise different historical and current topics, that reflect the lived experiences and sense of belonging of the groups we worked with.

With special thanks to BASA Community Group and the cared for children group run by Rochdale Youth Service.
